Winmante Medical Centre was named by Laura Singh, an Elder of the local community, and is dedicated to her mother Agnes Rigney (1939 - 2009).  

A respected Elder of the Ngarrindjeri people, Agnes managed the Aboriginal Community Centre in the Riverland for nearly 30 years.  The name Winmante was inspired by this centre.  Agnes was known for her strong advocacy for the protection and conservation of Aboriginal heritage sites.  She was an active member of community, sitting on numerous boards and committees such as the “First People’s of the River Murray” Native Title Claimant Group.
